MOSAIC: Diverse Elements

“While working with elementary school students, I rediscovered vibrant colour and bold mark-making. Excited by the energy created when their unrelated paintings hung in ensemble, I was inspired to continue my exploration of the organic form and present some of that work in ensemble. It unearthed a visual chant reminiscent of stained glass or mosaic. These paintings represent a body of work in progress.” - Cathy Hunt

NOAH…
The story has all the feel of a fairy tale.
The consequences of this venture, the forty days – I’m thinking of the promiscuous rabbits. The accommodation, the food and the feed, the pens and the cages.
In some accounts only the domestic animals are selected for the journey, then what about the raven?
I have resorted to semi-abstract solutions to depict the chaos I envisioned approaching this project. Some will sense a naïve quality in this work, and they won’t be too far off, as the same can be said for the story of Noah and his incredible venture.

Share in a magical time where cats have exaggerated expressions and rabbits are dressed in formal wear. Characters of the all-time favorite children’s story “Alice in Wonderland” invite you to their Springtime gathering at Ya Ya Gallery.

Artist Sheila Ottonen-Leuschner’s whimsical collection of paper maché creations was shown at Ya Ya Gallery from Friday, May 11 until July 3, 2007.
